How it works
Four steps, and two of them happen on their own.
- 1
Drop a Word file
A real .docx document, up to 50MB. Nothing to sign up for.
- 2
Embedded images are recompressed
The same engine our image compressor uses runs on every picture inside — nothing else in the file is touched.
- 3
Verified before it comes back
We reopen the rebuilt document and check its structure before ever handing it back to you.
- 4
Download the smaller document
Opens in Word exactly like the original — just lighter.
Why compress Word files here
Only the embedded images move — everything else in the file stays exactly as it was.
No signup, no watermark
The finished file, free, with no account and no credit balance to spend.
Nothing else is changed
Text, formatting, styles and layout are byte-for-byte the same — only the embedded pictures are recompressed.
Seconds for a typical file
Runs as part of the same request — no queue to wait behind.
A compression level you control
80 is a good default. Push it lower for a much smaller file, or higher to stay closer to the original quality.
Deleted after processing
Uploads and results are removed automatically once your download link expires.
Never bigger than the original
If a document genuinely can't be shrunk, you get the original file back rather than a bigger one.
Frequently asked questions
The things people ask before handing over a document.
Is it really free?
Yes — no account, no watermark, and the download is the full document, not a preview.
What actually gets smaller?
Almost all of a Word file's size, in practice, is its embedded pictures — screenshots, photos, logos — stored at whatever quality they were originally. This tool recompresses just those, the same way our image compressor does, and leaves every other part of the document exactly as it was.
Will this break my document?
No — only the bytes of embedded PNG/JPEG images are ever touched. Every other part (text, headers, styles, tracked changes) is copied through unmodified, and the rebuilt file is checked before it's ever handed back to you.
Does this work on legacy .doc files?
Not yet — only the modern .docx format (Office 2007 and later) is supported. Older binary Office files use a completely different internal format.
What happens to my file?
It is uploaded, processed, and deleted automatically. Nothing is kept once your download link expires.
My file came back the same size — why?
This tool never hands back a bigger file than you uploaded. If your document's images were already well-compressed, or it has no images at all, the original is kept as-is rather than replaced with something no smaller.
